Tuesday's New DVD Releases

Here are the DVD releases for next Tuesday, 3 July 2012:

Inside Nature's Giants: Camel
Mark Evans and comparative anatomist Joy Reidenberg head deep into the Australian Outback to explore the ultimate desert survivor: the camel. Not generally thought of as the home of camels, over a million feral dromedaries roam the middle of this vast continent, introduced - then abandoned - by European settlers a century ago. Now, as their numbers continue to increase and they wreak havoc on the environment, the government has introduced a culling program. This offers the team a unique opportunity to try and uncover the secret of the camel's hump, and to investigate how its elastic legs, stretchy lips, and pedestal (a strange bump on its chest) are among the many surprising adaptations that enable the camel to thrive in such a dry and hostile environment.
Inside Nature's Giants: Camel
Mark Evans and comparative anatomist Joy Reidenberg fly to New Zealand to join a team of experts dissecting a rare specimen of giant squid and a bizarre octopus that inhabits the ocean's 'midnight zone' over half a mile deep. From the moment they set eyes on these cephalopod cousins and their alien anatomy, the team is fascinated. Once thought to be the stuff of legend, it was only in the late 19th century that the Giant Squid?the largest invertebrate in the world?was first officially recorded by scientists. Now, thanks to the dissection, the team can piece together the puzzle of how Giant Squid hunt, how they jet through the water, how their quick-fire beak pulverizes food, why it has such enormous eyes, and the brutal truth about Giant Squid reproduction.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
The new journey begins when young adventurer Sean receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist, a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret. Unable to stop him from going, Sean?s new stepfather joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter, they set out to find the island.
Why Ships Sink
Picking up from this winter's Costa Concordia disaster and looking both back to the Titanic disaster a century ago, and into the future of sea travel, NOVA looks at questions about cruise ship safety and the science of the ships' buoyancy.
