Saving Money at the Library: Magazine and Newspaper Articles

Money Saving Tips from Your Library

With all that is happening in the economy today, many people are looking for genuine ways to save money. Sometimes it is hard to let go of many of the things we have grown accustomed to having, but budget constraints have left all of us looking for ways to cut back. In the next few weeks, I am going to offer some helpful tips that will allow you to save tremendously and not cut back on the things you enjoy.

Tip #3
Use the library’s magazines and newspapers

How many magazine or newspaper subscriptions do you have? If you have more than one, that is too many. Our libraries carry many of the popular magazine and newspapers that are published today. Please remember that every magazine and newspaper may not be available at all of our libraries. Magazines and newspapers can be accessed two ways;

1. Print editions – These are available at each library. The most current editions are normally on display in the periodical or newspaper section of your local library. If you do not see the magazine or newspaper that you need, just ask any staff member. Older editions are also sometimes available for check out. If there are magazines that you would like to keep for your collection, just browse our bookstores for donated magazines. These can be purchased for 10 cents at the libraries that have bookstores.

2. Electronic editions – There are several available, but I prefer Press Display. Press Display has newspapers from all over the world. These can be read online from home or in the library. Simply click on Databases A-Z from the Library's homepage. Next, scroll down to the P section and click on Press Display. This electronic resource contains popular newspapers like, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The L.A. Times and many more. Just click on USA or any other country from the country listing to see all the newspapers a particular country has.

How will this save you money?
1. No more subscription costs.
2. Magazines can be purchased in our bookstores for 10 cents
3. Less gas used by using the electronic editions

Did you find this tip helpful? What other ways can you think of that will save money?
