Precious, the main character in the novel is your typical American teenager. The only problem is she lives in the Brooklyn projects with her single mom who is a prostitute and who is addicted to drugs. Precious has a few things in her favor, she is extremely attractive with the body of a goddess, and the street smarts to handle any situation, which is what every big time drug dealer in the hood dreams off. So, when she turns sixteen, her mom gives an ultimatum that will change her life forever. Precious must pay $1000 a month to live in the roach infested project apartment or she will be put out on the streets to fend for herself. How will she come up with this amount of money working at the car detailing shop that is owned by one of the oldest gangsters in the game? She gets schooled by one of the oldest gangster in the game, Boogie. This is where it all begins with the Bitch series. As a result of the life she has led, precious also has a dark side that enables her to rise up from the deadly streets of the Brooklyn projects.

Precious first meets Azar, one of the neighborhoods big time drug dealers. He becomes infatuated by Precious and makes her his woman. He buys her the wardrobe fit for a queen, with all the designer clothes she could ever want. She has no problem getting the $1000 a month and then some to pay for her moms rent. However, things can change in the blink of an eye. Azar becomes involved in a set up that ends in a shootout and death. As a result, Azar is now being followed by the brother of the guy he killed in the shootout. In a brief encounter with the killer, Precious must decide between life and death. Does she tell the killer where Azar is, or will she take the fall?

After Azar is killed, and the money starts to run out, Precious realizes that she must find another guy to pick up where Azar left off. She meets Nico, an even bigger and more known drug king. Nico is in awe of Precious’ beauty and they hit it off instantly. They become an item until she realizes he is cheating with a hood rat, named Porscha. As a result, she plots revenge. She decides to sleep with Nico’s best friend and her best friend’s boyfriend, Ritchie. What happens during this part of the book, was truly unbelievable, so I will let you read it without divulging any secrets. Let’s just say more murders, jail time and a hit placed on Precious’ life.

After the occurrences with Nico, Precious decides to lay low for a while until things die down. This is where she meets her new roommate Rhonda, who introduces her to the celebrity scene. It is during this time that she meets extremely rich rapper, Supreme. Of course! She realizes that she is in love for the first time and after they break up and get back together, she begins to open up to him and reveals some, but not all of her past secrets. They get married and she becomes pregnant. She could not be happier as everything seems to have fallen into place. She decides to visit her mom’s grave and in doing so, sees an old friend of her mom's, who gives her a message of death. She decides to go to her old stomping grounds to seek the truth and runs into her arch rival Porscha. Another plan ensues that involves murder. Again, can’t leak the details, because you realize just how dark Precious can be in times of desperation. Soon, Nico finds her and it is up to Supreme to protect her. Can he protect her and her baby or is he just another casualty involved in the mysterious life of Precious?

After I initially get over the typical gorgeous girl from the projects that every guy dies to be with character that seems to be synonymous with the urban fiction novels, I can actually say this was a pretty fast read. Not much character development, but it was all in all a good, fast paced read that kept you guessing until the very end. Now onto the next book in the series, Bitch Reloaded.
