Saving Money at the Library: Library Wi-Fi

Money Saving Tips From Your Library

With all that is happening in the economy today, many people are looking for genuine ways to save money. Sometimes it is hard to let go of many of the things we have grown accustomed to having, but budget constraints have left all of us looking for ways to cut back. In the next few weeks, I am going to offer some helpful tips that will allow you to save tremendously and not cut back on the things you enjoy.

Tip #2
Use Library Computers/Wi-Fi

During these times, many people are looking to cut back on some of the services that they have at home. Disconnecting your Internet service and using the library’s computers or Wi-Fi is another way to cut your expenses.

To use our computers, you will need to have a valid library card number and PIN and owe no more than $9.99 in fines. All of our libraries have computers that you can access for up to one hour a day. Not enough time? Six libraries have computer labs that allow you to use the computers for up to two hours per day. These include, Centennial Hills Library, Clark County Library, West Las Vegas Library, Sahara West Library, Spring Valley Library and the Las Vegas Library. Need more than two hours?

We also have Wi-Fi at all of our urban libraries, as well as Laughlin, Mesquite and Moapa Valley. If you have your own laptop, you can access our Wi-Fi service free of charge. No password is needed. Just come in and log into our Wi-Fi. There is a simple agreement that you must read and insert a check mark in the box stating you agree to our terms and you are all set.

You can also print if you need to. Just log into one of our computers and print as much as you need. Just remember, you will need to add money to your library account before you can print. Black and white prints are .10 per page and color prints are .50 per page.

How much money can you save by using the libraries' computers or Wi-Fi? Let’s take a look.

1. Internet service at home can cost anywhere from $9.95 to upwards of $49.95.

2. Wi-Fi access costs at local Internet cafes vary according to the establishment.

3. You cannot print at many Internet cafes, so you must incur the additional cost of gas to drive to another location.

Ok, do you think this is a good tip? If so, just let us know. We are looking for ways to save you money, without losing out on the things you have come to enjoy. Make sure you check back next week for the third tip.
