Save money at the library: eBooks and eMedia

Money Saving tips from your Library
With all that is happening in the economy today, many people are looking for genuine ways to save money. Sometimes it is hard to let go of many of the things we have grown accustomed to having, but budget constraints have left all of us looking for ways to cut back. In the next few weeks, I am going to offer some helpful tips that will allow you to save tremendously and not cut back on the things you enjoy.

Tip #1
Download books from the library

You can download many titles from the library if you live in Las Vegas, just by using your library card number and your PIN number. We have lots of titles that we purchase from two separate companies, NetLibrary and Overdrive that have books in eBook and eAudio formats. There are many devices that can be used to view or listen to these titles. Visit these pages for a list of compatible devices, in Overdrive or NetLibrary.

You are allowed to have up to 35 titles at one time. You can choose your check out period, whether you need 7, 14 or 21 days. No need to worry about late fees for overdue items or gas to take the items back to the library. Titles automatically expire after the due date, so you have to do nothing. Even if you forget you have the eBooks or eAudio books checked out, they are returned automatically. Also, you can’t loose these, so no paying for lost or damaged items. Best of all, these titles are FREE as long as you meet the criteria above. You can’t beat that! For more information, click here.

How much money can you save by downloading books from our e-Media site? Well that depends on you, but here is a list of ways that you can save.

1. No late fees – Titles are returned automatically (Late fees are .25 per item, per day)

2. No lost or damaged items – You can’t lose the titles because they are on your electronic device and are returned automatically (Items vary in price from about $4 to about $50)

3. Less gas used – No need to travel to the library as often, because these can be downloaded from our website to your computer as long as you have internet access. No traveling in bad weather either. (Unleaded gas is approximately $2.70 per gallon or more)

4. Better for the environment and your health – No huge books to carry around, so less strain on your body. Less discarding or print materials have they have received lots of wear and tear.

Ok, you calculate how much you can save? Like this tip, if so, let us know. We are looking for ways to save you money, without losing out on the things you have come to enjoy. Make sure you check back next week for the second tip.
